For the past 10 years working in the children’s events and entertainment sector we have seen how they enjoy and learn from Face Painting. Whether your child is a Spider-man, the Ice Queen, or a little kitten, your child’s brain is going into another gear when decide on what they want to be and then enact their character!
And although it may appear to you as just play, when your child looks at themself in the mirror and see’s a lion staring back, their brain is developing in more ways than you can imagine.
Play is the work of the child, and children benefit cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally through character play.
Here are some of the ways we’ve seen kids enjoy and learn with face painting at parties and events.
Children are naturally imitative creatures. They learn about the world by imitating the lives of the adults and others around them. Through Face painting, children explore the lives of other people by imitating their characters.
Face Painting encourages children to negotiate as they agree on stories and ideas. They develop interest in their friends character choices and stories.
3. Vocabulary Building
Face Painting builds vocabulary as a child decides what his or her character would say. It gives them a chance to expand their vocabularies with words and phrases that they might have heard in stories, but wouldn’t ordinarily use. Children may then begin to use these new words in conversations.
Children’s imaginations are limitless, the wonder of this it that they can so convincingly emanate and become their character.
Albert Einstein said “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf education, believed that imaginative play in early childhood is the key to creative thinking during the adult years.
When children have their face painted, their imaginations are given freedom. There is no limit to who, where, or what they can be.
Some of the most popular Face paint choices:
Boys: Spider-man, Batman, Dinosaur, Pirate, Tiger, Lion, Ninja Turtle, Ironman, Capitan America, Shark and a whole lot more.
